Oracle Fusion HCM Analytics: Make Sense of Your Data

5 min read

In analytics, having data is only half the story. The real value comes from knowing where to find the right information and how to use it to answer business questions.

In Oracle Fusion HCM Analytics, subject areas are the building blocks of analytics and reports. They group related pieces of information, called data objects, within a particular business context. By choosing the appropriate subject area, you can build analytics and reports around the business question you want to analyze.

But there’s another important piece: access. Job roles are associated with duty roles, and together they control access to subject areas.

Let’s break down the key subject areas and capabilities covered here.

What Are Subject Areas?

Subject areas provide the foundation for creating and editing analyses and reports.

For each subject area, Oracle Fusion HCM Analytics provides information such as:

  • Description of the subject area.

  • Business questions that can be answered using its data.

  • Job-specific groups and duty roles that can secure access to the subject area.

  • Primary navigation to the work area represented by the subject area.

  • Time reporting considerations, including whether the subject area reports historical or current data.

  • Lowest grain of transactional data, which determines how data is joined in a report.

  • Special considerations, tips, and things to look out for when creating analyses and reports.

Job Role are Associated with Duty Roles, and together they control Access to Subject Areas.

Security Assignment: Know Who Has Access to What

The Security Assignment Subject Area helps you to Create Security Assignments. These Report make it easier to track Security Contexts and Identify and Users who has access to them.

Business Questions

You can use this subject area to answer:

  • What is the total number of security contexts?

  • How many users are assigned to each security context?

  • Which user is assigned to which security context, and when was the assignment made?

Access

The Security Reporting Duty role secures access to this subject area.

Folder: /Shared Folders/Common/Security Assignment

Workbook: Security Audit

Security Audit History

The Security Audit History section is applicable for CX Subscription Management Analytics only.

It provides data that can be used to create reports tracking:

  • Assignment of users to groups

  • Assignment of groups to roles

  • Assignment of security context members to users

Business Questions

It can answer questions such as:

  • When was a group created?

  • When was a role created?

  • When was a user assigned to or removed from a group?

  • When was a user assigned to or removed from a role?

  • When was a user assigned to or removed from a security context?

Warehouse Refresh Statistics: See What Happened During Data Refresh

The Warehouse Refresh Statistics subject area provides information about pipeline activity and performance.

It can be used to create analytics around:

  • Data refreshes

  • Pipeline jobs

  • Job failures

  • Rejected records

Together with data validation, Warehouse Refresh Statistics can help reconcile data between the Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications source module and Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence, supporting improvements in data quality over time.

Business Questions

You can use this subject area to investigate:

  • When was the warehouse last refreshed for each module?

  • Which modules have a high percentage of rejected records?

  • Which specific records were rejected for a particular module?

  • What errors did the pipeline encounter for specific jobs?

  • Which jobs fail most frequently?

  • What cascading effects occurred, such as related records failing because of a particular job failure?

Access

The Data Warehouse Refresh Analysis Duty role secures access to this subject area.

Folder: /Shared Folders/Common/Warehouse Refresh Statistics

Data Validation: Is Your Data Actually Matching?

The Data Validation subject area helps functional administrators validate a library of metrics between an Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence instance and an Oracle Transactional Business Intelligence instance.

After source data is loaded into the data warehouse, administrators can validate the data using prebuilt validation sets or custom validation sets.

A validation set can define:

  • Subject area

  • Metrics

  • Columns

  • Validation frequency

  • Validation date

Validation details are stored in the Data Validation workbook, available in the Common folder in Oracle Analytics Cloud. The workbook includes report tabs such as Validate data for ERP Analytics and Validate data for HCM Analytics.

Business Questions

The subject area can help answer questions such as:

  • Did my data get loaded into Oracle Autonomous AI Lakehouse accurately?

  • Can I schedule regular data validation?

  • If there is a variance between Oracle Transactional Business Intelligence source data and Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence destination data, how can I pinpoint the difference?

  • Are there built-in metrics available for data validation?

  • Can I create custom metrics for specific data validation?

Access

The System Administration duty role secures access to this subject area.

Usage Tracking: Find What’s Slowing Things Down

The Usage Tracking Analysis Dashboard focuses on understanding usage and performance within Oracle Analytics Cloud.

In Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence, usage tracking can help identify user queries that create performance bottlenecks based on query frequency and response time.

Administrators can define criteria for tracking user queries and generate usage reports that can support:

  • Report optimization

  • User session strategies

  • Planning usage by users and departments based on the resources they consume

The subject area includes details about logical queries, including the types of queries generated and their performance.

The Common - Usage Tracking - Physical Query subject area provides details about physical queries sent to the database.

Together, these subject areas can help understand query performance and the patterns of physical queries sent to the database. They can also provide details of physical queries generated for each logical query, including metrics such as row counts and elapsed time.

This information can be especially useful when creating new custom content following recommended practices or when providing additional data points for prebuilt reports while reporting performance problems.

Business Questions

The subject area can answer questions such as:

  • What are the average queries run by a user by month?

  • How many user sessions were created per month?

  • How many distinct queries were run per month?

  • How many distinct users used the system?

  • How many distinct users used the system in a week?

  • What are the average queries run by a user in a week?

  • How many logical queries were run by the top users?

  • What are the top 10 logical and physical queries by execution time?

  • Which dashboards and visualizations are the slowest performing?

Access

The Usage Tracking Analysis Duty role secures access to this subject area.
